School Nurse
Missouri Lindenberg
Notes from the Nurse:
Please do NOT send children to school if they have had a fever, diarrhea or vomiting in the past 24 hours. It is not fair to them or to the other students who will be exposed to possible germs.
Breakfast:
Try to encourage your child to eat breakfast at home or here at school. Studies have shown its importance!
Sleep:
Students need adequate sleep. Try to have them turn off all electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Also, if possible, place the device in another room. Studies have shown that both adults and children lose 20 minutes on average just having the device in their bedrooms at night. This is a loss of over 2 hours a week of much needed sleep.
Also, limit decaffeinated drinks (colas and tea) and chocolate as these can interfere with sleep as well.
Medications:
Students may not self-carry pills or other over the counter medication. A doctor’s order must be written and turned in with the medication to the nurse’s office. Inhalers, Epi pens and diabetics supplies may be self-carried as these as considered emergency meds. But they do need to have an order on file alerting the school that the child is self-carrying.
If your child is self-carrying an asthma inhaler, please make sure that they, in fact, have it on them. This is esp. important if the asthma is “Exercise Induced” and they have PE.
Scheduled medication i.e. for ADHD must be checked in by an adult and cannot be brought in by the child.
ALL med orders need to be rewritten each school year.
